There are new guidelines about presentation of work for the student show. It IS permissible to use black or gray mattes as well as white or off white. For color designs, it would be best to pick out a black or gray matte to complement your work. For drawings, it depends upon the color of the paper the drawing is on.
If you need help with matte colors or choosing works for the show, I am happy to help. You could use neutral color cards to help determine the correct gray for a particular design or drawing. I would certainly take my design to the store where I purchase the matte board and hold it against the board to make sure it looks right with the design.

How large does the mat board that we are mounting the charts for the display case need to be?
You need a 3 inch border all around, so if the chart is 6x9", add 3 to each side: 3+6+3= 12; 3+9+3=15
So the dimensions will be 12x15"
For our drawings, do they need to be mounted or can we have the mat framed around the drawing?
In my opinion, drawings look best matted.
